Rode Procaster

I've been using this Rode Pro caster since December of 2020, at the time I wasn't sure what mic I needed but I was sure I needed a mic that had better off axis sound rejection than the condenser mic I was using at that time which was a mxl 990, which used phantom power. Over the past 2 - 2 1/2 years the mic has been in different positions and orientations, and some of those mounting choice's were bad because it made me use way too much gain and compression on my now retired Yamaha mg16xu audio mixer which had a gain of 64 Db. Now when the gain is set really high you everything in the room comes in including any air/heating systems you may have, with High pass Filter enabled, which is a feature on my former audio mixer. Moreover, I've read that sweetwater says the mic has a low cut filter which can be the same as a high pass filter, depending on how it's configured, however there isn't one on this mic and it's not a internal feature, I verified viewing this mic on rodes on product page, so sweetwater please fix this over sight. Over the past 2 - 2 1/2 years I've used this mic from skype call's to video production. and it hasn't let me down yet. The quality of this mic is metal construction, which makes it heavy, but durable. additionally, I have the wind shield installed on it which cut down on a lot of background air noise from my heating/air system, plus I have it mounted to the rode shock mount and rode boom arm. which have all stood up so far knock on wood. Now my current set up is a yamaha mg12 standard mixer, and I've got the mic now positioned correctly by using the heil fl-2 mic desk flange, too bad rode doesn't make a flange like the heil fl-2, this allowed me to mount the boom so that the mic and boom didn't obstruct my view of my 5 monitors and allowed it to get close enough to me so I didn't need the gain turned up past 50 db. The gain is currently set around 30 db or less depending on what application I'm using. and this allows the background not to be picked up by the mic and is even helped by the high pass filter on the yamaha mg12. All and all I'm well pleased with this mic and I hope I get many more years of reliable service out of it.

Awesome Value

Bought a few Podmics and love them. But, once I got the Procaster, it was over....I love this mic. Sounds, to me, just as good as an RE20 or SM7B...in all fairness, all 3 of those mics sound different...but the quality is the same. I fell in love with the Procaster when I started my Podcast. The magic combination...Procaster into the Rodecaster and the Podmics for my guests. Rode really out did themselves and has proven to be a great audio company.....AGAIN!!

One of the best!

This mic is everything they say it is and more. Sturdy with great sound. Mine is plugged into the Rode RODECaster Pro using the Rode PSA1 Pro Studio Arm and it is solid. The sound of the mic is great and exceeds my expectations.

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Ash Grey

I originally got this mic for voiceover work, but I've been astonished by how good it sounds on my vocals. I'm a solid baritone ranging into tenor territory. I sing very much from my chest, and that resonance is a large part of my voice. I tried virtually every mic in my not inconsiderable collection, and they all sounded like I'd run my voice through a highpass filter. Not this one. The Procaster captures all of voice beautifully, providing me with the most natural if not flattering sound I've gotten from a mic.

Carson McClain

The Rode Procaster is my new favorite microphone for heavy metal and rock vocals. I was very happy with the way the Procaster handled all of the frequencies in my voice and it really cut through a mix that contained synths, heavy guitar, bass, and drums. Designed for broadcast, great for metal!
